Argent’s Investment Committee Offers General Outlook

Our Nation has received a terrible blow that has affected us in many different areas.  We, like many of you, are saddened, angered and resolved.  We know that the American people will convert these emotions to appropriate action.

As a show of our support to those Americans most directly hurt and those who are working diligently to help heal physical wounds, Argent Financial Group, Inc. has made a donation the American Red Cross. 

During this time of recovery and reflection, the Investment Committee of Argent Financial Group, Inc., continues to meet and share gathered information from varied areas of financial and economic concern.   We want to assure our clients of a few items:

First, our trading and investment processes, or the way we interact with the market, has not been damaged. When the stock market opens Monday, we will be able to conduct business as usual. Clients have had and continue to have complete access to money in their accounts. 

Second, the U.S. Bond Market was open on Thursday and Friday, and trading was stable and orderly.  This important segment of the financial system continues to function well.

Third, like any other day, we do not know whether the market will move up or down on Monday. While the stock market often reacts with great volatility to events such as Tuesday’s attack, we know that, ultimately, the market recovers and reflects the strength of our economy and the productivity of its workers.

Finally, as a company we plan to focus on the long-term. Certainly we will monitor and adjust your portfolios, as needed.  However, we will not attempt to take advantage of this tragedy by speculating on short-term swings. As the markets open next week, we will not short equities or buy puts on our markets. We ultimately believe in the strength of America, its people, and its economy.
