Argent Client Spotlight: United
Way of Northeast Louisiana When
the verbal abuse that Kay had endured for years escalated into physical
violence, she knew that she had to do something to keep her children safe.
One day, Kay and her boys struck out on foot to find a better life for
themselves. Miraculously, they managed to find their way to the YWCA of
Northeast Louisiana. There, Kay found the safe shelter and support that
she and her children desperately needed to heal their broken spirits and
start over. She says the encouragement that she and her children have
received from everyone at the YWCA has made the greatest difference in her
life. Her children eagerly
participate in the after school programs of the YWCA and their grades have
steadily improved since they are no longer under the pressure of living in an unhealthy environment. Kay
and her children will be moving
into their own apartment through the YWCA’s Transitional Housing
Program. She is currently working as a nurse’s aide and is pursuing
her LPN certification. The YWCA will be working with Kay to help with
tuition, transportation, and childcare. Thanks
to the programs of the YWCA and their partnership with United Way of
Northeast Louisiana, Kay is providing a healthy, secure environment for
herself and her children.
As for what advice she would offer to others in her position, Kay says,
"I feel like I can fly now…Don’t give up – you don’t have to
stay – do not give up". This
is one of the many success stories of United Way of Northeast
Louisiana. United Way is helping people and improving community by
focusing on four specific goals:
Creating Bright Futures for Children, Improving Health and
Wellness, Responding to
Crisis, and Strengthening
Families. The
staff of Argent Financial Group financial supports the United Way of
Northeast Louisiana and is pleased to have them as a client and a friend. Thank
you, United Way, for all you do for the communities of
Northeast Louisiana. To read more
