The Dow Jones Industrial Average gave up Monday all and more of its Friday gain due to heavy fighting this weekend in Iraq.

Analysts mostly agree that the appearance of the war being longer than initially expected adds to today's loss by the Dow.

On Friday, the Dow rose 235 points or 2.8 percent, to 8521 while the S&P 500 rose 20 points, or 2.3 percent, to 895. Both posted their first 8-day (consecutive) gain since November, 1999. The NASDAQ, which gained 6 percent Friday, fell into negative territory only one of the last eight days.

Volume was substantially higher on both the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ showing institutional support for equities.

What does this mean for the individual investor?

Despite international uncertainty, the US Stock Markets continue to offer great reward potential. Argent recommends an intensive risk tolerance assessment and a well-thought out investment plan which should include a professional financial advisor.
